Shravan
month is the fifth month according to the Hindu calendar. The month begins from
the day after Guru Purnima and continues till next Purnima. In the year 2016,
this time period will begin from 20th of July and will end on 18th of August. It is considered as the holiest month dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Mondays are
very auspicious as Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva. So, all Mondays in the
month of Shravana are known as Shravana somvaes which are important days to
offer prayers.
It is said
that during samudra manthan, Lord Shiva gulped poison which came out as a
byproduct from samudra. Lord Shiva wore crescent moon to calm down the deadly
poison. Further, river Ganga was offered. The season was Shravan and this is
how the time became significant to worship Lord Shiva, the savior of human
kind. Therefore, devotees offer prayers, flowers and organize Pooja to seek
happy, long and prosperous life.
Pooja known
as Rudraabhishek Pooja is organized. Lord Shiva is worshipped in his Raudra
avtar. Rudraabhishek is among the greatest Pooja which helps in fulfilling all
